Can You Solve the Case of The Final Rehearsal?
The historic Ravenswood Theatre was days away from opening night. The cast and crew of "The Shattered Mask" had gathered for their final full run-through — a rehearsal that should have ended with applause.
Instead, it ended with a body.

The Discovery
At 9:42pm, Elias Trent, the show's leading man, was found dead on the stage floor, still in costume. The fatal blow came from a heavy stage-weight — one that should have been safely secured on the fly rail above.
Only five people were inside the locked theatre during the rehearsal break. One of them is a killer.
THE SUSPECTS
-
Lila Fairweather – The Co-Star
Talented, adored, and recently outshone by Elias after the director rewrote several scenes.
Story: She claims she was practising lines in the wings and never went near the fly rail.
-
Bram Doyle – The Stagehand
Quiet, methodical, and responsible for all fly-rail rigging.
Story: He says he was fixing a sticking pulley backstage and swears the weight was secure when he last checked it.
-
Marianne Holt – The Director
Brilliant but demanding. She'd had a heated argument with Elias earlier — overheard by several cast members.
Story: She insists she was reviewing notes in the front row when the weight fell.
-
Seth Alden – The Understudy
Ambitious and increasingly frustrated by Elias never missing a performance.
Story: Claims he was in the dressing rooms adjusting his costume for Act II.
-
Nora Penn – The Props Master
Organised, unshakeable, always prepared… except tonight.
Story: She says she was taking inventory in the prop room and heard the crash from below.
THE CLUES
- The fly-rail brake had been released manually — no mechanical failure was possible.
- Fresh chalk dust (used by fly operators) was found on Seth's sleeve — but Seth isn't trained for fly work.
- A page torn from Elias's script was found in the front row. On it was a handwritten note:
"We need to talk. After the break." — M
- Lila's microphone pack was still switched on during the break, accidentally recording her. The audio reveals footsteps and a metallic click, then silence.
- Bram's toolkit was missing a single wrench — later found near the fly rail brake.
- The props room door was jammed from the inside with a sandbag. Nora could not have left without moving it.

THE SOLUTION: Who Killed Elias Trent?
The murderer was… LILA FAIRWEATHER.
Here's how the clues fit cleanly and logically:
⭐ 1. Only Lila could have physically been at the fly rail.
Her "practising lines in the wings" story is disproved by her live mic recording:
- footsteps
- a metal click
Which aligns perfectly with someone operating the fly-rail brake.
⭐ 2. Seth's chalk dust is a red herring.
He borrowed Bram's jacket earlier to fetch a prop (confirmed by Nora later).
The dust came from Bram's work, not the fly rail.
⭐ 3. Marianne's handwritten note proves motive, not action.
The director wanted a private talk with Elias — but she was in clear view in the front row during the break. The torn script page was simply blown by a draft in the theatre.
⭐ 4. Nora couldn't leave the props room.
The door was blocked from the inside. She physically had no exit.
⭐ 5. Bram's missing wrench was used by someone else.
He left his kit backstage. Whoever accessed the wings could grab it easily.
That person? Lila — the only other one in the area.
⭐ 6. Motive: Elias replaced Lila in two of her key scenes.
Earlier that day, the director shifted major emotional beats to Elias.
Lila's resentment was exact, immediate, and fierce.
⭐ 7. The method was simple:
- She slipped into the fly rail area during the break
- Released the brake using Bram's wrench
- Returned to the wings before anyone returned
Elias never heard it coming.
